WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical!
Memphis is a Broadway musical with heart, soul and energy to burn. She's a black singer whose career is on the rise, but who can't break out of segregated clubs of 1950's Memphis Tennessee. He's a white radio DJ whose love of music transcends race lines and airwaves. When the two collaborate, her soulful music reaches radio audiences everywhere, and the Golden Era of early rock 'n' roll takes flight. But as things start to heat up, whether the world is really ready for their music - or their love - is put to the test.
A thrilling theatrical event that combines Broadway splendor with the roots of rock, Memphis features a Tony Award® winning story by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change), a Tony Award® winning original score by David Bryan (Bon Jovi) and Joe DiPietro, direction by Christopher Ashley (Xanadu) and choreography by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys).
Be ready to experience all the exuberance and the emotion...the beauty and the controversy...of a wondrous, defining time in our history. You're tuning in to Memphis.

Needs a better leading man
He was creepy. strange vocal mannerisms and profusely sweaty, did not understand why anyone could be attracted to the character. The leading lady was very good, deserved a better partner.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!!!! Everthing about the show was great. Great Music, Great Dancing, upbeat at all times no low parts in the show. I would see it again without a doubt.

And like Huey, Memphis may well turn out to be a huge crowd-pleaser. But whether one is willing to fully embrace the show or simply give it a little hug will depend on one's willingness to overlook the project's tonal inconsistencies and reliance on cliche.
Calhoun (Chad Kimball) -- who is based in part on real-life 1950s radio personality Dewey Phillips -- is an uneducated yet ambitious man who tricks his way onto a Memphis [...]
