Lombardi, a new play by Oscar winner and Steppenwolf Theater Company member Eric Simonson, is based on the best-selling biography When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Maraniss.
This original work brings the audience into the life and times of one of America's most inspirational and mercurial personalities, Hall of Fame football coach, Vince Lombardi. It is directed by the Tony-nominated Thomas Kail (In the Heights) and stars Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years).

Amazing actors, Boring Story
Let me preface this by saying I see a lot of shows. I also need to say Ido not know or care much about sports. That being said, here is my review. The actors were phenomenal. They were captivating. The storyline, however, was BORING and way too slow and drWn out. I think they were trying to get in as many of his famous quotes as they could. Despite what some others have said, if you do not like sports or know any history, either research the guy before you go or do not go. My husband was in HEAVEN, but he was a collegiate football player at the Division 1 level. My conclusion, if you lobe sports, go. If you do not, stay away and spend the money on a better show.

Great acting and great night of theater.
I am not a football fan and I loved this play. The acting was great and the story was moving and interesting. I loved this play.

Theatergoers do not need to be football fans to enjoy Eric Simonson's biodrama Lombardi, now playing at Broadway's Circle in the Square. In fact, the true joy in the unevenly crafted play, directed with sturdy proficiency by Thomas Kail, is savoring the portrait of a marriage that emerges thanks to Dan Lauria's turn as the title character, legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi, and Judith Light's sterling performance as his understanding, football-widowed wife, Marie.
