WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Double Emmy winner, Grammy nominee and NY Times Best Selling author Kathy Griffin is taking her stand-up comedy show to Broadway in Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony for 8 performances only.

Dishing on all pop culture and shining a light on inappropriate water cooler talk, the show will feature all new material about her hilarious observations and run-ins with celebrities. The show is subject to change nightly depending on what Kathy decides is the news of the day.

Kathy Griffin moved from her native Chicago and joined the famed Los Angeles Groundlings Theatre where she was a student and later a teacher. She built up her resume doing guest spots on "ER", "X-files" and "Seinfeld" where she developed the recurring character 'Sally Weaver'. Kathy went on to co-star alongside Brook Shields in "Suddenly Susan" which ran for four years on NBC. In 2005 Kathy entered the world of reality TV with her double Emmy winning show "Kathy Griffin- My Life on the D List" for Bravo. Her stand up specials "Kathy Griffin-Straight to Hell" (November 2008) and "Kathy Griffin; She'll Cut a Bitch" (April 2009) were both nominated for an Emmy in the category Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. Kathy's memoir "Official Book Club" was # 1 on the New York Times best seller list. Kathy's comedy albums "For Your Consideration"(2009) and "Kathy Griffin does the Bible Belt" (2011) have both been nominated for Grammy's. Kathy is the recipient of the 'GLAAD Vanguard Award', received the Trevor Project's 'Lifetime Achievement Award' and 'Ally for Equality Award' from the Human Rights Campaign.

Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony review
Clearly, she aint gonna get a Tony as The Theatre Wing had gotten rid of this category last year. The show is outrageously funny but it felt like her random standup comic show. Dont get me wrong, I love her and Im a fan but I have heard most of her stories and jokes. Having no director should tell you that she can just talk about anything at any time. No structure, kept telling the audience to remind her of someone shell talk about later. If you wanna see her, just do the SRO for $27 or wait for to be on HBO Special. If theres a category this year, she is so behind John Leguizamo and Collin Quin. And the campaign about her hosting the Tonys this year on Facebook, please, drop it. She is just starting on Broadway. There are way too many qualified Broadway people to host the Tonys. For my complete review, visit http://www.theatermania.com/blog/capridragon28
