While Charlotte Bronte's beloved novel is no stranger to stage adaptation, this new musical version has been much anticipated on its road to Broadway (it's already had two out-of-town productions). The show's book and direction are by John Caird, with set design by John Napier, both of whose work is well known from Les Miserables. The music and lyrics are by a relative newcomer to the musical theater world, Paul Gordon. Jane Eyre is the tale of a plain yet strong-willed English girl orphaned at an early age. After becoming the governess for a wealthy family, she falls in love with the master of the house. But a dark secret threatens to tear the pair apart. Marla Schaffel and James Barbour star as Jane and the mysterious Mr. Rochester.
