WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Nominated for 2 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical!
Two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff directs this brand new production of Guys And Dolls, featuring choreography by Sergio Trujillo. The musical stars Tony Award nominee Oliver Platt as Nathan Detroit, Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham, Tony nominee Craig Bierko as Sky Masterson, and Kate Jennings Grant as Sarah Brown.
Packed with such classic hits as "Fugue for Tinhorns," "A Bushel and a Peck," "Adelaide's Lament," "I'll Know," "Guys and Dolls," "More I Cannot Wish You," "Luck Be A Lady," and "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat," Guys and Dolls features music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows.
Based on "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure," two short stories by Damon Runyon, it also borrows characters and plot elements from other Runyon stories, most notably "Pick the Winner."

I enjoyed it and I thought it was good, but I didnt like how Lauren Gram and Oliver Platt were thought of as the stars simply because of their fame. Lauren was pretty good, I thought and I really cant say anything bad about her because she was so sweet to the fans afterwards, but I think their status took away from the appreciation for the real stars, Kate Jennings Grant and Craig Bierko.

So-So.
I tend to agree with Maureen. I enjoyed seeing Oliver Platt, but he did little for the part. We adore Lauren Graham, but after Gilmore Girls we struggled accepting her as Adelaide. I agree that most of the supporting cast is quite strong. Its not a bad show, its just not special. That said, Nicely Nicelys rendition of Sit Down, Youre Rocking the boat is now firmly on my list of top 10 musical numbers Ive ever seen. I dare you to watch it and not bust out in enthusiastic applause.

As America endures what might be called "The Great Recession," it's fascinating that in the revival of the classic musical Guys and Dolls, now at the Nederlander Theatre, director Des McAnuff has shifted the action of the musical to "The Great Depression." McAnuff serves up a simultaneously razzmatazz and tawdry affair, which, despite Frank Loesser's dazzling score and Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows' top-drawer zingers, never fully transports audiences to a mythic New York where a kind of perpetual sense of hopefulness exists, even when things are at their worst.
The dual tones of the production are apparent upon entering the theater. Cascading dice rendered in bright neon are center stage,[...]
