WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Nominated for 2 Tony Awards!
Emmy Award nominee Jim Belushi (The Defenders, According to Jim), Tony Award winner Robert Sean Leonard (The Invention of Love, Dr. Wilson on House) and Nina Arianda ("A breakout performance - one of the highlights of the year"- Charles Isherwood for Venus in Fur) star in Born Yesterday, Garson Kanin's award-winning comedy about sex and politics. Directed by Tony Award-winner Doug Hughes (Doubt), it's the timeless and timely story of a not-so-dumb-blonde who, with the help of a no-nonsense reporter, uncovers her brutish boyfriend's dirty little secrets and soon discovers that ignorance is not always bliss.

great fun
as noted elsewhere as in everywhere ms. arianda as billie gives a truly memorable, glittering performance that keeps this production running on high octane; but i was surprised by how much mr. belushi grew on me - his harry wrangles sympathy and more than a touch of human feeling out of a role written in caricature. a tip of the fedora as well to the marvelous michael mcgrath as eddie who is hilarious even standing still. smashing set, good old fashioned but not too dated comedy, an extremely entertaining evening out.

'Born Yesterday' review
Nina Arianda as Billie Dawn, her Broadway debut, is a hoot and steals the show. She leaves you wanting for more. Your hearing will be tested as her accent resembles that of the native New York singer Cindy Lauper. Even Tony winner Robert Sean Leonard is struggling to contain himself from Billies smart and dumb punchlines. Jim Belushi, however, falls into the stereotype banality. Quaint, commodious 1940s Scenic Design by John Lee Beatty, Costumes by Catherine Zuber, Original Music by David Van Tieghem and scintillating Lighting Design by Peter Kaczorowski make this production remarkably one of the best shows this season. Many people consider Garson Kanin's Born Yesterday to be the funniest American comedy of the 20th Century, so it's a pleasure to report that marvelous supporting evidence for that belief is being offered by the current Broadway revival, now at the Cort Theatre.
In Doug Hughes' smartly directed production -- starring the consistently hilarious Jim Belushi, Nina Arianda, and Robert Sean Leonard -- not only does every line of pithy dialogue land as solidly as Apollo 11 on the moon, but equally important, Kanin's sardonic look at the nation's capital feels as fresh and as bold as it was in 1946.
For those unfamiliar with the plot, Born Yesterday has the gleeful effrontery to follow dumb ex-[...]
