Act One

I just saw this show this week in previews. I enjoyed the show, and the performances for the most part, although some of the acting was really "ACTING". Just be theatrical if you must but dont SHOW us you're being theatrical. The set was cool, and very functional. The play itself is a little boring. I'm a theater person, I love the theater more than most people. But the story just was not that interesting. Alot of the "jokes" were hokey, predictible as was some of the "schtick". The characters were interesting to a point. The acting was good for the most part. I'm sure the Tony committee will consider this the play to beat for the award since its about a Theater Person.... I just dont think it is an extraordinary work. Many aspects of this show are good, but overall, it falls a little short of being a great night out in the theatre. I probably wont go see Act Two if they're working on that.
