The 3,700-seat Metropolitan Theatre (the former name of the Wang Center) opened its doors in Boston in 1924. The Metropolitan was dubbed "The Wonder Theater of the World" due to its excessive and opulent decor. It enjoyed a relatively long stretch as a venue for movies, big-band performances, and elaborately staged revues. In 1983, the theater was treated to a major renovation funded by An Wang and reopened as the Wang Center for the Performing Arts.
