WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The much-anticipated revival of Edward Albee's modern classic Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? plays a pre-Broadway tryout at the Wilbur Theatre. Following its 3-week Boston engagement, the production -- starring Kathleen Turner and Bill Irwin -- will move to New York, with a March 12th first preview date set, and a late March opening. Anthony Page directs.

A hilarious and caustic look at marriage and relationships, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? blazed its way into theatre history with its groundbreaking debut in 1963, winning Albee his first Tony Award, and almost as famously getting rejected by the Pulitzer Prize advisory board for being what one member described at the time as "a filthy play."

THEATER/VENUE INFORMATION:

The 1,200-seat Wilbur Theatre is a simple two-story brick structure, scaled more along the lines of a private residence than an opulent playhouse. Inside, the Wilbur has a fan-shaped house that provides excellent sightlines.
