Synopsis

One of Shakespeare's last plays, The Tempest is also one of the shortest and sparest, observing the Classical unities by taking place during a single day in a single place: the island to which Prospero, former Duke of Milan, has miraculously escaped after being usurped by his treacherous brother. In his refuge, Prospero has raised his daughter, Miranda, and continued to study the art of magic, aided by his servants, the "airy spirit" Ariel and the monstrous Caliban. When he is given the opportunity to use his magic to bring those who robbed him of his dukedom to justice, he must choose between forgiveness and revenge.
