Synopsis

The world's most beloved musical returns to WFT, posing again the infamous question: How do you solve a problem like Maria? Rodgers and Hammerstein's final collaboration, based on Maria Von Trapp's autobiography, follows the adventures of a high-spirited young woman who is ill-fitted for the life of the convent. Sent to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval officer, who runs his home as if it were an Austrian navy vessel, Maria wins their hearts (and his) with her exuberant love of life. The family's narrow escape from the Nazis, over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II, is one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented onstage. With gospel singer and Trinity Rep regular Angela Williams (The Princess of Reason in last season's The Phantom Tollbooth at WFT) as Maria.

Appropriate for audiences 7 and up.
