James Levine Withdraws from Boston Symphony Orchestra Performances

James Levine will miss what would have been his final appearances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) this year due to ongoing back problems, according to a report in The New York Times. As previously reported, these health issues required Levine to withdraw from performances at the Metropolitan Opera last fall.

Levine will miss BSO performances in Boston and New York. Jayce Ogren will lead the performances March 25-27 and Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos will conduct April 1-3 in Boston and April 5 at Carnegie Hall. A conductor for the orchestra’s performances April 8-10 will be announced at a later date.
