WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The Mai has always lived an exceptional life. When her philandering cellist husband leaves, she builds an idyllic home on the edge of Owl Lake, hoping to woo him back. The play opens on the day of his return after a four year absense. Whether The Mai's hopes will be fulfilled, or whether love will be disappointed is the question that unfolds, while a Greek chorus of four generations of Irish female relatives butt in with their opinions, and their own stories of love's illsions and delusions. Both funny and tragic, the show has a cast of memorable characters, from 100-year-old-opium-smoking Grandma Fraochlan, to Millie, the daughter-narrator, its hard not to fall in love with this highly flawed but very human, and in its own way, loving family. Woven through the play are the family stories, underscored by the beautiful and haunting music of the cello. Original music by Valerie Forgione, and performed by Antoine Malfroy-Camine.
