WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

This exciting Winter Jubilee showcases all new and original works by upcoming and national playwrights, including Russian native, Ludmila Anselm. Her piece, the festival's featured full-length, Chekhov's Last Love, directed by Lau Lapides, festival producer explores the unique relationship of Anton Chekhov and his actress wife Olga Knipper and the creation of the legendary Moscow Art Theatre. The play takes audiences through the days when Chekhov wrote Three Sisters and Cherry Orchard in which Olga was to perform. This play features Angelo K. Athanasopoulos, Victoria Rose Townsend, Sally Nutt, Anthony Scibilia, Christie Lee Gibson, and Naina Avanesova.

This year's International Guest Artist is Teatro Prometeo performing Chejov vs. Chejov to be presented in Spanish with English subtitles, written and directed by Jacqueline Briceno. The story portrays the life of Chekhov through his works innovatively staged with music and movement.

The Woman with the Red Kerchief, written by Regis College Chair and Professor Wendy Lement and visiting University of Iowa Associate Professor Firouzeh Mostashari, explores Leo Tolstoy's love story with Aksinia, a young serf, who captures his imagination, drawing Leo into her world. The liaison turns into an obsession for Tolstoy that even a quick marriage to society maiden, Sonya Behrs, cannot cure. Sonya, Aksinia, and Tolstoy are locked in a love triangle that resists the passage of time.

The four-day Festival jubilee includes 25 Russian-themed one acts from around the nation and showcases performances by musicians, dancers, singers, stand-up comedy, along with strolling street performers.
