WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Moments of Disconnect, by Kentucky poet Dan Bernitt, presented by the Provincetown Fringe Festival in July.

"So what happened to that sarcastic, gay, pseudo-Canadian poet's urethra?" Dan Bernitt's solo show, Moments of Disconnect, is told with honesty and humor and blends the forms of theatrical monologue, stand-up comedy, literary reading, and spoken word performance to craft scenes from his life--from the hilarious anecdotes of tree-climbing and doctor's offices to the more poignant monologues about internalized racism and being gay in America. With a tone that shifts in an instant from soothing and sultry to energetic and warm, he presses bruises unapologetically, only to follow up with a humorous anecdote a moment later.

Dan Bernitt, 19, recorded two full-length CDs before he could drive. He wrote and performed a one-man show before he could vote. And he still can't legally have a hard drink after a performance. He is a graduate of the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts, and will be a sophomore at the University of Kentucky in the fall. Earlier this summer, he presented Moments of Disconnect in the Cincinnati Fringe Festival, and he makes his New England premiere this July.
