Written by German nobleman Friedrich Schiller in 1800, this historic drama examines the political intrigue and religious conflicts of 16th century England. The play centers on a fictional meeting between first cousins, Queen Elizabeth and Mary, Queen of Scots. Each Queen claims to be the rightful heir to the throne.
