Shakespeare on the Cape is comprised of actors from The Guthrie Theater/University of Minnesota BFA Actor Training Program in Minneapolis. In its inaugural season of 2005, the company performed Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream for overwhelmingly positive audiences and criticts.
Both of these productions were chosen by The Cape Cod Times as "Top Theater Picks for 2005." In its end-of-year review, The Times said, "A new company of young actors brought Shakespeare to brilliant life in Provincetown this summer with two of the bard's comedies...Without sets and only limited costumes, company members trained at the prestigious Guthrie Actor Theater Actor Training Program...cavorted through a fanciful production, built out of talent and soaring creativity." Provinetown Magazine said, "From the get go...the troupe has the crowd focused eating up their measured deliveries and hanging through their flawless timing...[they] may be considered novices in the world of their chosen profession, and yet they show they are apprentices of the highest order."
This season's repertory run of Romeo & Juliet and As You Like It promises to be even more exciting than the last. With support from many donors, several foundations and generous businesses including The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, Bubala's By The Bay, Spiritus, & Enzo Restaurants, and Seamen's Bank our productions will entertain all audiences and age groups at venues throughout Cape Cod in Provincetown, Harwich and other select locations.
