Mary Callahan to Star in New Rep’s Sophie Tucker: The Last of the Red Hot Mamas

Mary Callahan will star in the title role in New Repertory Theatre’s production of Jack Fournier and Kathy Helenda’s Sophie Tucker: The Last of the Red Hot Mamas, to run June 24 – July 11 at the Arsenal Center for the Arts. Kate Warner will direct the piece, which will have musical direction by Todd C. Gordon.

This musical revue celebrates Tucker’s sassy style, bold personality, and chronicles her career which spanned seven decades. The production will include songs that she made famous, such as “I’m the Last of the Red Hot Mamas,” “The Lady is a Tramp,” “You’ve Gotta See Your Mama,” and “Some of These Days.”

Callahan received an IRNE Nomination for her performance as Hattie in Follies and was a part of the Elliot Norton and IRNE Award-winning production of Batboy: The Musical at SpeakEasy. Other stage credits include national tours of Cinderella, The Sound of Music, Damn Yankees, and Big.
