The Comden, Green, and Bernstein classic musical On the Town and Shakespeare’s comedy Much Ado About Nothing starring Gretchen Egolf and Christopher Innvar are the first two selections of Barrington Stage Company‘s 2013 summer season.

On the Town, which features music by Leonard Bernstein, book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and is based on an idea by Jerome Robbins, will open the Boyd-Quinson Mainstage season in June. Set in 1944, the musical follows three sailors as they attempt to find love and adventures in New York City before their 24 hours on shore leave run out.

Egolf and Innvar will play headstrong adversaries and lovers Beatrice and Benedick in Julianne Boyd’s production of Much Ado, the first Shakespeare play ever to be presented at Barrington Stage Company. The comedy will also feature Mark H. Dold as the deceitful Don John.

Additional casting and information about other productions will be announced in the future.
