John Beasley, Brandon J. Dirden, Crystal Fox, Eugene Lee, Warner Miller, and Bill Nunn will star in the Huntington Theatre Company’s production of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning play, Fences, to run September 11-October 11, with an opening on September 16. Kenny Leon will direct.

The play is the story of Troy Maxson (Beasley), a former Negro Leagues star who peaked too soon for baseball’s integration and instead hit the ceiling of racial prejudice. Working as a garbage collector in 1957 Pittsburgh, he is resentful of a world that denied him the opportunities for the national success he feels he deserves.

The creative team will include Marjorie Bradley Kellogg (set), Mariann Verheyen (costumes), Ann Wrightson (lighting), Ben Emerson (sound), and Dwight C. Andrews (original music).
