American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) will present Randy Weiner’s The Donkey Show at Zero Arrow Theatre, August 21-October 31, directed by Diane Paulus (Broadway’s Hair) and Weiner. The production will kick off the theater’s Shakespeare Exploded! series, a festival of works inspired by Shakespeare’s texts.

An Off-Broadway hit several years ago, Donkey Show is Inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and explores the classic text behind velvet ropes in a glittered wonderland of decadence, divas, and disco. The Shakespeare Exploded! series will also feature Sleep No More an immersive piece inspired by Macbeth, created by British theater company Punchdrunk; and Best of Both Worlds, a Gospel and R&B re-envisioning of The Winter’s Tale.

The creative team for Donkey Show will include Evan Morris (lighting design), Scott Pask (set design), David Remedios (sound design), and David Woolard (costume design).
