Tony Award-Winning Pippin Director Diane Paulus Heads Home to Boston to Speak at StageSource Theater Conference

A.R.T.’s Loeb Drama Center will host the New England theater conference, entitled Reframing Success.

Diane Paulus, recent Tony Award-winning director of this year’s Best Revival Pippin, has tasted success on the Great White Way. However, many may have forgotten that she is a member of Greater Boston’s smaller community of artists as the artistic director of Cambridge’s American Repertory Theatre. On Saturday, June 29, she will bring her Broadway wisdom back to her home turf to speak at StageSource’s 2013 conference, Reframing Success.

StageSource is a nonprofit theater-service organization that has been offering leadership in the Greater Boston theater community since 1985. Its biennial theater conference gathers together hundreds of New England actors, directors, designers, playwrights, and administrative personnel to discuss some of the more prevalent issues that arise in their artistic careers.

This year’s conference will explore what it means to be a successful artist and will aim to place the concept of success in a broader context. Paulus will offer the conference’s opening remarks along with StageSource Board President Kristin Baker and StageSource Executive Director Julie Hennrikus, with entrepreneur Stever Robbins serving as the keynote speaker.

Throughout the day, attendees will participate in discussions about professional pursuits such as arts activism and the development of new work, as well as hurdles including personal finances and time management.
Mimi Huntington, founding artistic director of Cambridge’s Nora Theatre Company, will also be presented with the StageSource Theater Hero Award at the close of the conference. The award honors Huntington’s many years of service at the helm of one of the Boston area’s first companies to focus on female-centric stories and as one of the creators of the Theatre Community Benevolent Fund, a relief fund for artists and organizations dealing with times of crisis.
