Boston Playwrights’ Theatre Announces 2011/2012 Season

Boston Playwrights’ Theatre has announced four new productions for its 2011/2012 season, continuing their celebration of the theater’s 30th anniversary.

Robert Brustein’s Mortal Terror will be presented in collaboration with Suffolk University at the newly re-opened Modern Theatre at Suffolk University, September 15-October 2. In Mortal Terror, Brustein brings the spirit of William Shakespeare back to the stage in his story of political upheaval set during the beginning of the Gunpowder Plot.

The season will also feature the work of two recent graduates of Boston Playwrights’ Theatre’s MFA Playwriting Program. Walt McGough’s The Farm, September 29-October 23, is a suspenseful showdown between the old and new guard which examines a profession in which no one can be trusted. William C. Fancher’s The River Was Whiskey, October 27-November 20, is a gritty ghost story set within the racial tensions of 1940s Mississippi.

The final production of the season will be Deported: A Dream Play, Joyce Van Dyke’s riveting story of the Armenian genocide. Memories and dreams interweave in this tale of enduring friendship incorporating music and dance.
