The Lyric Stage Company Announces 2012-2013 Season

The Lyric Stage Company has announced the plans for its 2012-2013 season.

The season will open with Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado (September 9-October 15), the tale of the beautiful school girl Yum-Yum who is engaged against her will to be married to Ko-Ko. The season continues with an adaptation by Aaron Posner and Chaim Potok of Potok’s The Chosen (October 19-November 19), an emotionally moving coming-of-age story. The company will bring 2012 to a close with David Henry Hwang’s play about an American businessman in a bustling Chinese province, Chinglish (November 30-December 31).

Kicking off the new year will be 33 Variations (January 4-February 4) by Moisés Kaufman, an examination of the creative process, parenthood, and genius. Next will be Lynn Nottage’s comical look at racial stereotypes in Hollywood By the Way, Meet Vera Stark (March 29-April 29). The final play that Lyric Stage has announced for the season is On The Town (May 10-June 10) by Betty Comden, Adolph Green, and Leonard Bernstein and based on an idea of Jerome Robbins, which tells of three American sailors with one day in New York City to see the sights, meet a girl, and have the time of their lives.
