Leslie Kritzer, Amanda McBroom, Jeff McCarthy, Brad Oscar Set for Barrington Stage 2012 Season

Barrington Stage has announced an updated overview of its 2012 season, which will feature over 230 performances, including musicals, plays, concerts, readings, and free events.

The season will kick off with Duncan Macmillan’s Lungs (May 23-June 10), directed by Aaron Posner. In association with the production, there will be a free-of-charge “Conversations With…” event featuring BSC Artistic Director Julianne Boyd and the play’s cast on Friday, May 25. A post-show discussion of the play will be held on Tuesday, May 29.

Joe Iconis & Family will perform May 25 and 26. Shakina Nayfack will direct a reading of Bashir Lazhar by Evelyne de la Cheneliere, translation by Morwyn Brebner, June 3-4.

Brad Oscar will star in the Jerry Bock-Sheldon Harnick-Joseph Stein musical Fiddler on the Roof (June 13-July 14). A performance of the musical is included as part of the BSC Annual Summer Gala on June 23. It is followed by a party with dinner, dancing and a silent auction. In addition, on June 26, there will be a post-show discussion. Additional Fiddler-related events include “New Riffs on Everyone’s Favorite Yiddish Story” with Aaron Lansky on July 8 and “Fiddler Off The Roof, A Klezmer Event” featuring Golem and host Seth Rogovoy on July 9.

Boyd will direct Mark St. Germain’s new play, Dr. Ruth, All the Way (June 19-July 15), starring Debra Jo Rupp. In association with the play, Dr. Ruth Westheimer will be doing a book signing on June 29 and will join playwright St. Germain for a “Talking Sex with Dr. Ruth” discussion and Q&A on July 2. A post-show discussion of the play will be held on July 3.

Singer/songwriter Nikos Tsakalakos returns to BSC with The Niko Songbook, July 6-7.

Jeff McCarthy stars in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons (July 19-August 4), directed by Boyd. There will be a post-show discussion of the play on July 24. A “Conversations With…” event for the production will be held with Dr. Susan C. W. Abbotson on July 29.

BSC’s Youth Theatre will present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (July 25-August 12), directed and choreographed by Christine O’Grady.


Giovanna Sardelli will direct Rajiv Joseph’s The North Pool (July 26 – August 11). There will be “Conversations With…” event with both playwright and director on July 28. A post-show discussion will be held July 31.

On July 30 Leslie Kritzer will star in Hello, Gorgeous! Leslie Kritzer Sings Jule Styne.

Philip King’s See How They Run (August 9-26) will be directed by Jeff Steitzer. A post-show discussion will be held on August 14.

There will be a staged reading of Tom Stoppard’s Travesties on August 13.

BSC’s Musical Theatre Lab will present The Black Suits (August 16-September 2), a new musical by Joe Iconis and Robert Maddock, directed by John Simpkins. Iconis and Simpkins will participate in a “Conversations With…” event on August 21. A post-show discussion will be held on August 23.

A staged reading of a new musical will be held August 26-27.

Two-time Tony Award-winner William Finn will narrate Songs By Ridiculously Talented Composers and Lyricists You Probably Don’t Know But Should…, August 31-September 1.

Amanda McBroom and George Ball will star in Brel in the Berkshires!, September 20-23.

Boyd will direct Lord of the Flies (October 3-21), by William Golding, adapted for the stage by Nigel Williams. A post-show discussion will be held October 11.
