The Boston Theatre Critic’s Association’s 2010 Elliot Norton Awards, honoring excellence in Boston-area theater, were presented last night, May 17, in a ceremony at the Paramount.

Actress Karen MacDonald received the Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence, and was greeted at the event by married couple Brooke Adams and Tony Shalhoub, both of whom are currently appearing on Broadway in Lend Me a Tenor, and Cherry Jones, who will be appearing tonight and tomorrow with the Boston Pops’ in their world premiere of The Dream Lives on: A Portrait of The Kennedy Brothers.

The big winners of the evening included Elevator Repair Service’s production of Gatz, which took home three awards, for Outstanding Visiting Production, director John Collins, and actor Scott Shepherd. Also winning three awards was SpeakEasy Stage Company’s Adding Machine: A Musical, which won for Outstanding Musical Production, Outstanding Design, and director Paul Melone.
