The musical is penned by Eleanor Bergstein, the film's screenwriter. It tells the story of Frances "Baby" Houseman, a doctor's daughter, who falls for Johnny Castle, a talented, headstrong dancer from the wrong side of the tracks.
The U.S. premiere will open with a limited engagement in Chicago at the Cadillac Palace Theatre beginning September 28 through December 7, and the show will make its West Coast premiere at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles in May 2009.
