Elliot Norton Awards to Be Held May 17; Michael Maso to Receive Theatre Hero Award

The Elliot Norton Awards will be presented in a ceremony to be held on May 17 at the Paramount Theatre. At the ceremony, Michael Maso, managing director of the Huntington Theatre Company, has won the 2010 StageSource Theatre Hero Award. The honor is being given in recognition of Maso’s service, inspiration and role as a champion to Boston area theaters and the arts.

Maso has been at the helm of the Huntington since 1982. In addition to his work at the theater, he has served on the boards of such organizations as StageSource, ArtsBoston, and Massachusetts Advocates for Arts, Sciences and Humanities. Maso’s activities have also extended to the development and creation of the Calderwood Pavilion, which has provided a home for many local organizations. His work has been also recognized with such prizes as the Boston Herald‘s Theatre Man of the Year and Massachusetts’ Commonwealth Award, the state’s highest arts honor.
