Elevator Repair Service, Kenny Leon, Diane Paulus, et al. Receive 2010 Elliot Norton Award Nominations

Nominations for the 2010 Elliot Norton Awards, honoring excellence in Boston-area theater, have been announced. The awards will be presented in a ceremony at the Paramount on Monday, May 17, beginning at 7pm.

Elevator Repair Service’s Gatz, at American Repertory Theatre, has received five nominations, including for Outstanding Visiting Production, Outstanding Design, director John Collins, actor Scott Shepherd, and for ensemble.

Nominees for visiting production also included the tour of the musical Spring Awakening and Classical Theatre of Harlem’s Waiting for Godot.

Nominees for new script include Lydia R. Diamond’s Harriet Jacobs, John Kuntz’s The Salt Girl, and Ryan Landry’s Phantom of the Obrah, while nominated directors include Kenny Leon (Stick Fly) and Diane Paulus (The Donkey Show).

Nominated actors include Scott Fisher (Becky Shaw), Crystal Fox (Fences), Luke Grooms (Jerry Springer, The Opera), Will Lyman (All My Sons), Karen MacDonald (All My Sons), Nigel Gore (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf), and Sandra Shipley (Entertaining Mr. Sloane).

The award for Outstanding Theatrical Experience will go to Punchdrunk and American Repertory Theater’s Sleep No More. As previously reported, Karen MacDonald will receive the Elliot Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence at the ceremony, while StageSource will present its annual Theatre Hero Award to Michael Maso.
