Cirque du Soleil’s Ovo will play a limited engagement under its trademark blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top), located at the Fan Pier & Pier 4, on Boston’s New Waterfront beginning July 22. Renowned Brazilian choreographer Deborah Colker has written and directed the piece.

The name Ovo means “egg” in Portuguese, and the production is described by the company as being “a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement.” The action of Ovo is set in motion when a mysterious egg appears in the insects’ midst.

The other members of the show’s creative team include Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix (artistic guide), Chantal Tremblay (director of creation), Gringo Cardia (set/prop design), Liz Vandal (costume design), Éric Champoux (lighting design), Jonathan Deans (sound design), and Berna Ceppas (original music).
