Bean, Baker, Whitlock, et al. Set for Huntington Breaking Ground Festival

The Huntington Theatre Company has announced the line-up for its 2008 Breaking Ground Festival, to be presented April 3-6 at the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts.

The festival will begin on Thursday, April 3 at 7:30pm with Michael Friedman and Daniel Goldstein’s chamber musical Unknown Soldier, to be directed by Will Frears, about a modern-day woman who discovers a cache of old letters from World War II-era lovers. The cast features Damien Baldet, Brendan McNab, Stephen Plunkett, Sara Saltzberg, and Maria Thayer.

Next up, at 8pm on Friday, April 4, is Ken Urban’s Sense of an Ending, to be directed by Evan Cabnet, about an African-American journalist who arrives in Rwanda to uncover dark truths about acts of genocide. The cast features Johnny Lee Davenport, Ato Essandoh, Chinasa Ogbuagu, Gilbert Owuour, and Jacqui Parker.

On Saturday, April 5 at 2pm will be Mat Smart’s Thomas Repair, about a mysterious girl that throws a family into crisis. The cast features Noah Bean, Zabryna Guevara, Lisa Joyce, Maureen Keiller, and Keith Randolph Smith. That evening at 8pm, the festival will present Nathan Louis Jackson’s Broke-ology, directed by Amanda Charlton, about a pair of African-American brothers. Ogbuagu and Owuor will be joined by Keenan Ramos and Isaiah Whitlock, Jr.

Concluding the festival at 7pm on Sunday, April 6 will be Melinda Lopez’s Caroline in Jersey, about a woman who is about to be thrown out of her apartment, starring Becky Ann Baker, David Beach, Will LeBow ,and Karen McDonald.
