César Alvarez, Sammy Tunis to Star in A.R.T.’s Futurity: A Musical By the Lisps

American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) has announced casting for the world premiere of Futurity: A Musical By the Lisps, to be performed at OBERON, March 16-April 15. Sarah Benson will direct.

The show features music by César Alvarez with the Lisps, lyrics by Alvarez, and a book by Molly Rice and Alvarez.

Set during the Civil War, the musical centers on Union soldier Julian Munro, who dreams of bringing peace to the world and an end to human suffering. Under the guidance of Lord Byron’s brilliant daughter, Ada Lovelace, Julian attempts to invent an omnipotent steam-powered brain designed to save humanity before it destroys itself.

Alvarez stars as Julian Munro, with Sammy Tunis as Ada Lovelace. The cast also features
Edwin Lee Gibson as the General, Anne Gottlieb as Lady Byron, Aaron Schroeder as the Sergeant, and Chelsey Donn as Vincent. The ensemble of soldiers, musicians, and scientists will be played by Milia Ayache, Matthew Christian, Liza Dickinson, Eric Farber, Teri Gamble, Rose Hogan, Carl James, Michael Kane, Lindsey Liberatore Ben Simon, and Lorenzo Wolff.

The production design is by Emily Orling, with set and costume Design by David Israel Reynoso, lighting design by Austin R. Smith, sound design by Matt Tierney, choreography by Annie-B Parson, and music direction by Debra Barsha.
