The New Repertory Theatre Announces 2008-2009 Season

The New Repertory Theatre has announced selections for its 2008-2009 season, which will include works by Anton Chekhov, Athol Fugard, Kander and Ebb, and Martin McDonagh, among others.

The Mainstage shows are performed in the Mosesian Theater. This season will include Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters, where Olga, Masha and Irina cling to memories of the Moscow they left as children; The Lieutenant of Inishmore by Martin McDonagh, an unapologetic farce about the Irish Republican Army enforcer, “Mad” Padraic; Kander and Ebb’s Cabaret, a picture of 1920’s Berlin where Cliff, an American writer, enters the Kit Kat Club only to get caught in the sea of painted lips and rouged cheeks; and Exits and Entrances by Athol Fugard which examines why art matters and the extent of its impact on the world. The final piece will be announced at a later date.

The Downstage @ New Rep shows are performed in the Black Box Theater. This season will include Body Politic by Jessica Goldberg, which follows a Hollywood screenwriter who tries to infiltrate an army medical center to interview injured Iraqi war veterans; and Gutenberg! The Musical! by Scott Brown and Anthony King, which follows two men who end up performing every part of their epic musical about the printing press to impress possible investors. The final piece will be announced at a later date.

The traditional holiday shows will include an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol directed by Rick Lombardo, and The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris, a strange-but-true account of adventures in holiday retailing told by Crumpet, the Macy’s Elf.
