Tony Award-nominated director Maria Aitken will return to Huntington Theatre Company to direct Anton Chekhov's The Seagull this spring. Aitken will take the reins of the production from Nicholas Martin, who was previously slated to direct. The play is set to begin previews at the Boston University Theatre on March 7, with an opening on March 12.

Huntington Theatre Company's upcoming production of The Seagull stars Tony Award nominee Kate Burton (Spring Awakening) as actress Irina Arkadina, mother of Konstantin (played by Burton's real-life son, Morgan Ritchie). In the play, Arkadina visits Konstantin, an aspiring playwright, with her successful novelist lover in tow and kindles unrequited passions and petty jealousies. The production features a translation by Paul Schmidt.

Recipient of the 2013 Regional Theatre Tony Award, the Huntington Theatre Company produces new works as well as classics under the artistic direction of Peter DuBois.
