The Williamstown Theatre Festival has announced initial details for its new Main Stage and Nikos Stage productions.

Michael Greif will direct what is being billed as a “preview production” of the new musical Far From Heaven, featuring a book by Richard Greenberg and a score by Scott Frankel (music) and Michael Korie (lyrics). The show — to perform on the Main Stage July 19-29 — focuses on Cathy Whitaker, who seems to be the picture-perfect wife and mother in 1957 suburban Connecticut. But roiling beneath the surface, secret longings and forbidden desires cause her world to unravel — with incendiary consequences. The creative team will be making changes over the course of the run to further develop the musical.

Blythe Danner will star in the world premiere of Lucy Boyle’s The Blue Deep, to play the Nikos Stage, July 11-22. Bob Balaban will direct the production, which revolves around 26-year-old Lila Miller and her mother Grace.

The full 2012 Season will be announced next month.
