Valerie Leonard and Cherene Snow will star in Merimack Repertory Theatre's production of Frank Higgins' Black Pearl Sings!, to run February 11-March 7, with an opening on February 14. Benny Sato Ambush will direct.

In the play, a search for lost African-American folk music leads Susannah (Leonard), an ambitious "song collector" for the Library of Congress, to Pearl (Snow), a woman in a Texas jail with a soulful voice, a steely spirit, and an incredible history.

The creative team will include Deb Newhall (costume design), Robin Vest (set design), Brian Lilienthal (lighting design) and Eugene Wolf (music director).
