Synopsis
After presenting a staged reading of this play in the 2007 Studio Festival, Shakespeare & Company now opens the preview season of the new Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre with the world debut of this provocative new work by Christine Whitley. The Goatwoman of Corvis County, by turns hilarious, chilling and heartbreaking, echoes with the deeply buried secrets of love that have long-lasting ramifications. A fading beauty living on a defunct farm in Tennessee bears the weight of her complicated past and must face it as her new husband adapts to the presence of her troublesome teenaged son. As the play unfolds, so does the history of secrets that keeps the title character trapped within her own soul. A chance for escape emerges, and she eventually discovers the price of her past mistakes.
