WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
For five days this summer, Tanglewood's Festival of Contemporary Music is devoted exclusively to the music of the legendary American composer, Elliott Carter. Highlights include remarkable works from recent years, classics of the past, interviews, discussion and film.
The 2008 Festival of Contemporary Music will celebrate the centenary of legendary composer Elliott Carter. Born in 1908, Mr. Carter - who is expected to attend the Festival - is internationally recognized as one of the leading American voices in the classical music tradition. Emphasizing the historic nature of this event, James Levine will serve as the Festival's director and has envisioned the event as a joyful celebration highlighting the remarkable productivity of Mr. Carter's recent years. There will be three orchestral programs, of which Maestro Levine will conduct two: one performed by the TMCO and, for the first time in the Festival's history, a complete FCM program performed by the BSO.
