WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Barrington Stage will present the world premiere of the hilarious musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Tony-award winner composer and lyricist, William Finn, has teamed up with conceiver Rebecca Feldman and playwright Rachel Sheinkin to write this one-of-a-kind take-off on the sport of competitive spelling.
Audience members battle with six fiercely competitive and talented spellers in this outlandish match of wits. Only one of these brainiacs will come out on top and be crowned the Putnam County Spelling Bee champ. Spellers clash in this nail-biting contest sure to change each participant's life forever.

The project's etymology is impressive. The musical germinated from a concept by Rebecca Feldman, who includes among her New York credits shows in "dozens of downtown firetraps."
