WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Considered to be George Bernard Shaw's masterpiece, Heartbreak House is a witty, thought-provoking, and piercing look at British society as England marched relentlessly toward World War I. The patriarch of a comfortable estate nestled in the countryside, Captain Shotover, a slightly mad poet and retired seafarer, is hosting a weekend house party attended by his daughters' friends and lovers. In the drawing room, while hearts are being broken, hopes dashed, and careless lives aimlessly pursued, the clatter of cocktail hour chitchat all but blots out the distant thunder of bombs exploding on the horizon.
Anders Cato directs for the Berkshire Theatre Festival.
Appropriate for audiences 16 and up.
Postscript performance July 19.
