WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Shakespeare & Company presents an extraordinary 30th anniversary
production of the Bard's most luminous comic fantasy -- a mix of
eloquence, dreaminess and poetry with a bitter-sweet edge. This transformative and magical play brings together the pageantry of love, the spirits of the night, the sublime clowning of the rustics, and the unmatched beauty of a fairy kingdom.
When young lovers fleeing an arranged marriage enter an enchanted forest, they are caught in a web of spells and magic spun by Oberon and Titania, the fairy King and Queen, and the mischievous sprite Puck. Of course there is a happy ending -- Puck's evening of fairy pranks finally comes to a close, the lovers are reconciled, and the court and fairy kingdom are once again in harmony. Eleanor Holdridge directs.
Prior to 8:00pm evening performances of Midsummer, enjoy the Shakespeare & Company Prelude, featuring a variety of performances to help prepare audiences for the evening's show.
