Blythe Danner, Katori Hall, Lily Rabe, Maria Tucci et al. Set for Williamstown Theatre Festival Readings

Williamstown Theatre Festival has announced selections and preliminary casting for its 2011 Fridays@3 play reading series, to take place in the Paresky Center, Williams College, every Friday at 3pm from July 8 through August 12.

The series will kick off with Sarah Hammond’s House on Stilts (July 8), directed by Kip Fagan. Set in the South Carolina low country, it centers around a man haunted by a tragic accident whose solitary life is interrupted by the arrival of an old friend and her teenage daughter.

Next up will be It’s Only a Reading (July 15), co-written by Tony-nominated actress Maria Tucci and novelist and New York Times writer Mary Tannen. Patrick Breen will direct this play, set amongst the celebrity-studded hills of Taos, New Mexico.

Olivier Award-winning playwright Katori Hall’s WHADDABLOODCLOTT!!! (July 22) is about an affluent Upper East Sider who contracts the very rare Foreign Accent Syndrome, forcing her to speak uncontrollably with a Jamaican accent. May Adrales will direct.

Blythe Danner and Lily Rabe will star in The Blue Deep (July 29), a new play by Lucy Boyle about a woman whose prodigal return to her mother’s idyllic summer home in Sag Harbor may not be quite as well received as she would like. Bob Balaban will direct.

Tarell Alvin McCraney’s Choir Boy (August 5) is set at the prestigious Charles R. Drew Prep School for boys, where 17-year-old Pharus has an insatiable desire to be the finest first tenor in the school’s reputable choir.

Theodore Dreiser’s classic 1900s novel Sister Carrie (August 12) will be directed and adapted by Steve Lawson. In it, a provincial girl from Wisconsin arrives in the big city of Chicago where vice and virtue are intertwined, money clashes with desire, and reaching the top depends on what you can sell.
