Berkshire Playwrights Lab has announced that it will offer staged readings of Philip Gerson’s Eyes Forward and Kate Wenner’s Make Sure It’s Me. Bob Jaffe and Joe Cacaci, respectively, will direct the performances.

In Gerson’s new play, to be performed on June 16, a valuable painting stolen by the Nazis during WWII forms the background for two love stories in two different countries, seven decades apart. The company will include Ylfa Edelstein and Chris Stack. Additional casting will be announced shortly.

Wenner’s new play will be offered on June 30. The piece is set in a university brain trauma clinic, where five vets, injured in blasts in Iraq, confront the truth that their lives will never be the same again. Casting will be announced at a later date.

Gerson’s plays have been seen at the Colony Theatre in Los Angeles, Musical Theatre Works in New York, The New York International Fringe Festival, and Gayfest NYC. In addition, he has wrote and served as story editor for television’s Murder, She Wrote and was a writer and co-executive producer for Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.

Wenner spent fourteen years as an award-winning producer for ABC’s 20/20. She is the author of the novels Dancing with Einstein and Setting Fires and a memoir, Shamba Letu: An American Girl’s Adventures in Africa. Her ten-minute play Einstein and Freud in Heaven was featured in the Ten-Minutes Plays in the Berkshires Festival.
