Birdsong, Conlee, Egolf, Innvar, Moran, Saltzberg, Testa, et al. Set for Barrington Stage Season

Barrington Stage’s Company has announced casting for its upcoming staged reading of WATT!?!, to run May 24-25 at the VFW Hall, a new musical with book and lyrics by David Javerbaum, music by Brendan Milburn, and direction by Jonathan Bernstein. The show will feature Martin Moran, Mary Birdsong, Pearl Sun, Sarah Saltzberg, Benjamin Howe, John Jellison, and John Ellison Conlee.

The mainstage season will feature Doug Wright’s I Am My Own Wife, starring Vince Gatton and directed by Andrew Volkoff (May 21-June 8); followed by The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (June 11-July 12), directed by Jeremy Dobrish, with music Brian Usifer. The cast will include Emy Baysic, Miguel Cervantes, Hannah Del Monte, Molly Ephraim, Demond Green, Clifton Guterman, Michael Mastro, Eric Peterson, and Sally Wilfert.

Up next will be Richard Greenberg’s The Violet Hour (July 17-August 2), directed by Barry Edelsten; followed by Christopher Innvar, Rebecca Brooksher, Tandy Cronyn, Mark H. Dold, and Gretchen Egolf in Noel Coward’s Private Lives (August 7-24), directed by Julianne Boyd; and To Kill a Mockingbird (October 8-26), adapted by Christopher Sergel based on the novel by Harper Lee. In addition, the season will also a youth theater production of the Stephen Flaherty-Lynn Ahrens tuner Seussical (July 16-August 17).

The company’s Musical Theatre Lab selections will include The Mysteries of Harris Burdick (June 18-July 5), written and directed by Joe Calarco with music by Chris Miller and lyrics by Nathan Tysen; the Korean rock musical My Scary Girl (July 9-26), with book by Kyoung-ae Kang and Mark St. Germain, lyrics by Kang, and music by Will Aronson; and Richard Rodgers Musical Theatre Award winner See Rock City & Other Destinations (August 7-23), featuring book and lyrics by Adam Mathias, music by Brad Alexander, and direction by Kevin Del Aguila.

Other special events will include Michael R. Jackson’s concert Why I Don’t Sleep Around (July 18 & 19); Songs of a Night Owl (July 24-26), a concert by Nikos Tsakalakos; and Mary Testa and Michael Starobin’s Sleepless Variations (July 31-August 3). The company will also present free readings of Lee Kalcheim’s Believer (July 27) and Mark St. Germain’s Freud’s Last Session (August 30 & 31), and a summer finale on August 29 & 30, Songs by Ridiculously Talented Composers and Lyricists You Probably Don’t Know, But Should…, narrated by William Finn and sung by a cast of four. Finn will also be honored at the company’s gala on June 21.
