Joan Rivers, Deborah Voigt, et al. Set for Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center’s 2011 Season

Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center has announced programming for its 2011 season.

Opera great Deborah Voigt will headline the Mahaiwe Gala, to be held on Saturday, May 21 at 8pm. She will be accompanied by Brian Zeger. Theater-related highlights include comedy superstar the Flying Karamazov Brothers (March 5), comedian Kathleen Madigan (April 3), and comedy superstar Joan Rivers (July 29).

Mahaiwe and Symphony Space will co-present the political cabaret, The Thalia Follies: Divided We Stumble (February 20), created by Isaiah Sheffer and Martin Sage, with musical direction is by Lanny Meyers. Performers will include Ivy Austin, Mary Brienza, Sidney J. Burgoyne, David Buskin, Kathryn Markey, Nora York, and The Chalks. Roy Zimmerman and Jay Leonhart will make guest star appearances.

Performers will also include dance troupe Noche Flamenca, singer-songwriter Joan Osborne, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Rennie Harris PureMovement, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, reggae band Wailers, and legendary folk singer Peter Yarrow

In addition, the Emmy and Peabody Award-wining series Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD will continue, with the upcoming broadcast schedule including Nixon in China (February 12), Iphigenie en Tauride (February 26), Lucia di Lammermoor (March 19), Le Comte Ory (April 9), Capriccio (April 23), Il Trovatore (April 30), and Die Walküre (May 14).

Live in HD broadcasts also include London’s National Theatre Live (NT Live), featuring the musical Fela! (February13); Shakespeare’s King Lear starring Derek Jacobi (February 27); Danny Boyle’s production of Frankenstein (March 17 & 20), and The Cherry Orchard, featuring Zoe Wanamaker (June 30).
