Baltimore's CENTERSTAGE has announced the selections for its 2013-2014 season.
The theater will present Henry Wishcamper's adaptation of the Marx Brothers' classic musical comedy, Animal Crackers, featuring a book by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind and a score by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby, to run September 4-October 13. The production will also feature original orchestrations by Doug Peck.
Up next, Kwame Kwei-Armah will direct Marcus Gardley's family drama, dance of the holy ghosts: a play on memory, to run October 9-November 17. That production will be followed by Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel's acclaimed musical pageant, A Civil War Christmas: An American Musical Celebration, to run November 19-December 22; Marie Jones' two-person, multi-character play Stones in His Pockets, to run January 15-February 23; and William Shakespeare's beloved comedy, Twelfth Night, to run March 5-April 6.
The season will continue with Armah's production of Naomi Wallace's The Liquid Plain, about two runaway slaves and an amnesic sailor who live on the docks of an 18th-century New England seaport, to run April 16-May 25. It will conclude with Colman Domingo's Wild With Happy, about a gay men dealing with the loss of his boyfriend, a stalled acting career, and the death of his mother, to run May 28-June 29.
