Annie creators Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin are to accept an award recognizing their contributions to the advancement of musical theater for young people at the 2012 Junior Theater Festival, which will run January 13-15 in Atlanta.

In 1995, MTI Chairman Freddie Gershon partnered with Meehan, Strouse, and Charnin to premiere Annie JR., which launched Broadway Junior, the first educational division in a major musical theater licensing firm.

The festival will feature 3,000 students, teachers, and Broadway professionals brought together for a monumental celebration of the arts. In addition to the presentation of awards, the festival will include a showcase of new works presented by Disney Musicals and Smash Sunday, which will be hosted by NBC’s upcoming show Smash.
