Known as "the great performer," pianist, composer and radio personality Ramsey Lewis is one of the jazz world's most popular and endearing artists. He has recorded more than 80 albums and has received five gold records. For their Scottsdale engagement, Lewis and his trio will perform music from his classic 1960s pop CD, The In Crowd, as well as originals from his new recording, Songs from the Heart: Ramsey Plays Ramsey. The latter is Ramsey's first as a composer, and the 12 original tunes were composed primarily as a score for the Joffrey Ballet.

Lewis infuses his pop-laced jazz with gospel, blues and classical music. "It's his improvising that's striking," wrote The Guardian. "In the way he hides a groove in a long, snaking line that gradually intensifies the pulse, in the delicate control of dynamics, and in a breadth of jazz resources and sureness of touch." Lewis will perform with bassist Larry Gray and drummer Leon Joyce.
