WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Wih iPads and Kindles flying off the shelves and the archaic art of letter writing trumped by texting, the fact that many people still listen attentively to a middle-aged man in a shirt and tie read from a lectern attests to the power of the spoken word - or rather to the literary magnetism of David Sedaris. His newest bestselling book is a collection of fables entitled Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary (with illustrations by Ian Falconer) that will add handsomely to the seven million copies of his books that have been translated in 25 languages.
Like a squirrel hoarding nuts, Sedaris gathers odd, shiny facts and foibles from his years working as a Macy's elf, a mental hospital aide and an apple picker. This "humorist of the year" (Time Magazine) rips through comical one-liners with "blinding honesty and barbed witticism that is not only entertaining, but also downright addictive." (MetroActive) Sedaris will leave you feeling like a book, left open on a sofa, with the words still warm from being read.
Mr. Sedaris will answer questions from the audience and sign autographs after his reading.
