WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Set to be one of the most emotionally stirring experiences ever seen on our stage, Jason Robert Brown's Tony Award-winning musical Parade comes to Civic Theatre of Allentown as a special two show-only concert performance.
Parade is the true and tragic story behind the 1913 trial of Leo Frank, a Jewish man wrongly accused of raping and murdering a girl. Anti-Semitic tensions peaked throughout the state of Georgia, and when Frank's sentence was commuted due to possible problems with the trial, he was transferred to a prison in Milledgeville. An angry mob kidnapped him, and the harrowing events that followed sent shockwaves throughout the nation.
Yet it's the evolving relationship between Leo and his wife Lucille that forms the core of Parade. The poignancy of the couple, who fall in love in the midst of adversity, makes the harrowing outcome even more disturbing. Parade won the 1999 Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Book of a Musical, in addition to being nominated for Best Musical.
Parade will feature Equity Guest Artist Melisa Klausner in the role of Lucille Frank. Melisa has been seen on Broadway in Les Miserables and as Eva Peron in Civic's 2006 concert production of Evita.
